“…The Commission have made it clear that the referendum result changes nothing about UKs eligibility for H2020 funds. UK businesses and universities should continue to bid for competitive EU funds while we remain a member of the EU and we will work with the Commission to ensure payment when funds are awarded. Most importantly, the Treasury will underwrite the payment of such awards, even when specific projects continue beyond the UK’s departure from the EU. This means that any UK participants submitting proposals while we are still members of the EU are guaranteed funding for the life of the project, this includes such proposals where the grant agreement is concluded only after the exit of UK from the EU.

As a result, British businesses and universities will have certainty over future funding and should continue to bid for competitive EU funds while the UK remains a member of the EU. This should also give confidence to non-UK partners in forthcoming proposals and ongoing projects, that the participation of UK entities will in no way prejudice the evaluation of submissions or present any future risk to the project through removal of funding. The UK will continue to be a world leader in international research and innovation collaboration, and we expect to ensure that close collaboration between the UK and the EU in science continues.”
